By now you know that the Detroit Pistons will be choosing 5th in the 2023 NBA Draft after the biggest lottery drop in franchise history.

Yay.

But just like last season, the Pistons will have a chance to get an impact talent with the 5th pick, and they should have their choice of one of the better wings.

Also like last season, Troy Weaver could look to do some wheeling and dealing around one or more of his veteran players in an effort to get a second pick, as he did last year when the trade of Jerami Grant eventually led to Jalen Duren in the draft.

Most of the lottery is filled with teams like the Pistons, young squads on the come up looking to add more talent. But there are a couple who are in much different positions, which could lead to the Detroit Pistons making a trade.

Detroit Pistons: Trading with the Dallas Mavericks

After tanking to avoid making the play-in and losing their pick, the Dallas Mavericks were rewarded with the 10th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Dallas’ roster is a hot mess and they could possibly lose Kyrie Irving this offseason, which might not be the worst outcome for them if we’re being honest.

Either way, they have a ton of work to do to put a championship caliber roster around their MVP caliber player. Luka Doncic is not going to be happy being out the playoffs for long, so the Mavericks are under more pressure to improve than any other team in the NBA.

Adding the 10th pick in the draft is not exactly the way to do it. Yes, they could get a good player, but will that player be ready to compete for the playoffs next season? Probably not. This is why many believe the Mavericks will trade that player in search of veteran help and possibly cap space.

That’s where the Detroit Pistons come in.
