Detroit Pistons draft: Trade with the Dallas Mavericks

It’s hard to gauge what the 10th pick in this draft is really worth, especially before we know who is available at that spot. Detroit could put together a deal in principle and then wait and see if one of the draft prospects they like is there before making a move, as they did last year with Duren.

A player like Taylor Hendricks or Gradey Dick could certainly help the Pistons, but would it be worth giving a big trade package to get one of them?

This is one offer the Pistons could make to get that pick.

Phew.

This isn’t a no-brainer for either team, as the Mavs would be giving up a young, talented player for two guys in their 30’s and a second-round pick. They would also get off Bertans’ contract for next season, but it’s not fully guaranteed the year after that, so moving him probably isn’t as big a deal as it would have been previously.

But it would give the Mavs two of the NBA’s best 3-point shooters around Luka, and they would still have the first pick in the second round to try and add young talent to their pipeline. They may not see a huge difference between those picks and might think they can get a similar talent with the 31st selection.

As for the Pistons, they would have to REALLY like whoever was there at 10, and there would be some big pros and potential cons to making such a move.
