3 Ways NBA Draft Lottery results will shift Pistons’ offseason plans

The Detroit Pistons still have a wad of cap space and a number of potential ways to use it to grab free agents or make trades.

Missing out on Wembanyama almost guarantees that the Pistons are going to draft a wing in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Hopefully that wing will be part of the future core and ready to play minutes right away, which opens up Detroit’s options in free agency considerably.

With Wembanyama at the power forward, Detroit would have gone into free agency with only one position in mind, the wing. But now, if they draft a wing, they can go after different types of players in free agency.

With a wing like Cam Whitmore or Ausar Thompson in place, guys like Kyle Kuzma and Jerami Grant make a lot more sense because of their ability to play the four. Adding a wing in the draft means it is not imperative that they get one in free agency, which opens up a lot of possibilities.
