1 Too little, 1 too much, 1 just right trade package for OG Anunoby

Too much

OG Anunoby is a very good player and one of the best wing defenders in the NBA. But he’s more of a 3rd-best player on a good team than a superstar, and only has one more guaranteed year on his deal before he can hit free agency where he is going to cash in big time.

The Detroit Pistons would have to be ready to give him the bag, or they would potentially give up a lot for a rental, which is why they can’t go overboard to trade for Anunoby.

It would be too much to give up two cost-controlled top-5 picks for a guy who has yet to make an All-Star team and only has one guaranteed year left on his deal. It’s extremely unlikely that Detroit could trade for Anunoby without giving up the #5 pick or one of their core young players, but it would be an overpay to give up both.

The player they take at five could end up being Anunoby in a few years, and he’ll still be on a rookie deal. Same with Ivey, who showed star potential this past season and could end up being better than Anunoby himself.

Given the financials involved, as well as the fact that Anunoby could just bounce after a season, this trade would be too risky.
