The Detroit Pistons were in asset acquisition mode last season when they made the trade to land James Wiseman.

But now new coach Monty Williams is left with the results, which are that the Pistons have four centers on the roster. It’s not going to be easy to get them all minutes, there is some redundancy in skill and it’s hard to justify paying nearly $25 million to two guys in Marvin Bagley III and Wiseman who figure to be backups next season.

In other words, the Detroit Pistons could use a trade to balance the roster, so will be looking for a partner team that is in need of a center.

Luckily, there are many teams around the league that could be looking to add talent at the five. Here are six that could come calling to the Pistons about a trade this summer.

Here are six teams that could use an upgrade at center and may find a match with Detroit:

  • Washington Wizards: The Wizards only have Daniel Gafford under contract at center next season, and if they lose Porzingis, will be very shorthanded in the paint. We already suggested a possible trade with the Wizards that would benefit both teams.
  • Brooklyn Nets: The Nets could definitely use an upgrade behind Nic Claxton and there is a perfect trade sitting right there for both teams based around Marvin Bagley III and Dorian Finney-Smith.
  • Sacramento Kings: The Kings only have Domantas Sabonis signed for next season and could use a backup. It’s doubtful they’d want a reunion with MBIII but Wiseman would be a nice fit as their backup.
  • Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers have only the oft-injured Anthony Davis signed at center for next season. They also have a guy in Malik Beasley (team option) for next season that could interest the Detroit Pistons. The Lakers could take on Marvin Bagley III in exchange for Beasley and pick up some cap space along the way.
  • New Orleans Pelicans: The Pels have both Jonas Valanciuns and Larry Nance already, but could look for someone younger to replace Jaxson Hayes, who they could lose in free agency this summer. James Wiseman could be that guy, and would give them some insurance against another Zion Williamson injury.
  • Dallas Mavericks: God the Mavs are a mess. They do not have a single center signed for next season and need upgrades just about everywhere. If they lose both Christian Wood and Dwight Powell, they could come looking for a center.
