Detroit Pistons’ all-time starting lineup by win shares

Defensive Win Shares

The Detroit Pistons have always been known for their defense, and the top five in defensive win shares reflects that, as it has some all-time great defenders. And Andre Drummond.

  • Ben Wallace: 49
  • Bill Laimbeer: 46.7
  • Isiah Thomas: 39.5
  • Andre Drummond: 35.7
  • Dennis Rodman: 30

Hopefully this will give fans of the Pistons an idea of how underrated Laimbeer is, as he is the only player to appear in the top-5 on both sides of the ball, partially because he played nearly all of his 13-year career with Detroit and barely ever missed a game.

Not surprisingly, Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman, two of the NBA’s all-time great defenders are in the top-5 and people tend to forget that Isiah Thomas was a very good defender himself, averaging just under two steals per game for his career.

Drummond was not known as a great defender, but in his 7+ seasons with Detroit he only failed to average over 1.5 blocks once on his way to two All-Star appearances.

So what does the total wins shares starting five look like?
