How the Bradley Beal drama could benefit the Pistons
Silly season is officially upon us and the Detroit Pistons could get in on the action.
Detroit has been mentioned in myriad rumors involving the 5th pick and could also look to add additional draft picks in a trade.
It wouldn’t be trade season without a mention of Bradley Beal, who has to be on the Mount Rushmore of trade rumors at this point, as he has been mentioned in possible trades for years and his name is predictably out there again even though he’s only completed the first year of his massive contract.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Beal and his agent are currently working with the team on a possible trade, though we’ve been down this road before and each time it ended with Beal staying put.
So what does this have to do with the Pistons?
No, the Detroit Pistons aren’t trading for Bradley Beal
Before you get excited, it’s extremely unlikely that the Detroit Pistons would be involved in any deal for Bradley Beal.
The guy has arguably the worst contract in the NBA, with four years $200 million remaining and a full no trade clause, the only player in the league to have such a caveat.
Since Beal can veto any trade, it seems highly unlikely that Detroit would be in the running, as they are not a contender yet and Beal wants to play for a team that is ready to win right now.
Some have speculated that Beal’s contract would make it tough for the Wizards to get much in return, but even at a low cost, Beal makes little sense for Detroit, who aren’t at the stage of their rebuild to be taking on a super-max contract of a player who has never won anything.
I’ll probably get flamed for saying this, but when you factor in contracts, Beal might be the most overrated player in the NBA. He’s very good, but if he is the best player on your team, that team has a fairly low ceiling, so it would be much better for him to go to a team that already has other stars in place.
Even though Detroit won’t be directly involved in the Beal drama, there are ways they could benefit from the fallout.
