Detroit Pistons: Best free-agent fits after the 2023 NBA Draft

Kyle Kuzma: Unrestricted free agent

There is a lot to like about Kyle Kuzma with the Detroit Pistons now that they have Ausar Thompson in place. Kuzma is much more of a four and a small-ball five than a wing, so landing him now makes more sense.

Kuzma is coming off the best season of his career and at 27-years-old, Detroit would get the majority of his prime years on a three or four year deal. Kuzma is a good defender at the four, provides size and athleticism and would potentially give the Pistons a ferocious and diverse front court with Jalen Duren.

He can block shots, make plays off the bounce and is a decent high-volume 3-point shooter for a guy his size. He’d give new head coach Monty Williams a lot of versatility and possible combinations for offense and defense.

The problem is that he is reportedly looking for $30 million a season and the Pistons may not be willing to give up quite that much for a guy who only shot 33 percent from long range this past season. His value is at an all-time high, so they would be buying high, which is usually not a great idea.

You have to spend money to get talent and Kuzma is one of the most talented free agents on the market. But is he a guy you want to make the highest paid player on your team? That’s debatable.
