Detroit Pistons: Best free-agent fits after the 2023 NBA Draft

Jerami Grant: Unrestricted free agent

Jerami Grant was likely a free-agent target before the 2023 NBA Draft and still will be after the Pistons selected Ausar Thompson.

Pistons fans are well familiar with Grant’s game, but he has evolved over the past few seasons and isn’t exactly the same guy he was in his first tour in Detroit, when he was asked to be the centerpiece of the offense.

That won’t be the case now, and it wasn’t for him in Portland, where he became more of a catch-and-shoot guy and hit over 40 percent of his 3-point shots. He’s a versatile defender who can play either spot, but is better against fours.

He and Thompson would give the Pistons a long and versatile duo defensively and Grant can still provide shooting and playmaking off the bounce. Like Kuzma, the fit is there but the question will be how much it will cost.

Grant is a couple of years older than Kuzma, but an overall better shooter and might be the better fit because of it. Detroit will have to open the checkbook to land either one of them, so has to weigh what they can bring to the team now vs. how their contract might affect them moving forward.
