Detroit Pistons: predictions about the 2023 NBA Draft class

Most overlooked star potential…

There are two guys that stand out as ones who may have been overlooked somewhat and landed in ideal situations for them to flourish. The first is Brice Sensabaugh, who fell to 28th after some pre-draft concerns about his health.

This is a guy who was a very efficient scorer in college, can hit shots from all over the court and rebound. He shot over 40 percent from 3-point range and 83 percent from the line, so he can shoot it and should get a chance to play right away off Utah’s bench.

Jordan Hawkins also landed in a good spot in New Orleans, as he too should get a chance to play off their bench right away, as they need more scoring punch from that unit. I could see one or both of these guys averaging double digits this season and making the All-Rookie team.

Best player to drop out of the top-10…

What happened to Cam Whitmore during the 2023 NBA Draft was not only surprising, but somewhat painful to watch, as he was predicted to be a top-5 pick by many draft experts and some had him even higher. But he just kept dropping and dropping, reportedly due to something in his medicals that spooked teams.

He ended up falling to the Houston Rockets at 20th, who got to take a swing at a lottery talent with the 20th pick. To me, they were the big winners of the draft, as they not only got Amen Thompson but another guy considered a lottery talent by most.

Whitmore is young, explosive athletically and is going to be angry after falling all that way and watching his rookie checks diminish with each choice. He’ll get a chance to play in Houston and could be the guy a lot of teams retreat passing on.
