The Detroit Pistons have already had a busy offseason, but it’s about to head into phase two, which is Summer League.
Summer League is where legends are made, as it’s the first chance fans get to see their teams prized new rookies, as well as a whole lot of guys who will never step foot in the NBA. It’s the time for guys like Henry Ellenson and Luka Garza to get fans excited for no reason and to make bold predictions about their bright futures.
It’s also a chance for players you have never heard of to make their mark and potentially get a chance to make an NBA roster.
Here is the Detroit Pistons’ Summer League schedule and who will be playing.
Detroit Pistons’ 2023 Summer League schedule
The NBA did a good job to generate some additional interest by putting the Detroit Pistons up against teams that could be their future rivals.
- vs. Magic on July 8 at 5:30 p.m. ET (ESPN)
- vs. Rockets on July 9 at 6 p.m. (ESPN2)
- vs. Raptors on July 12 at 6 p.m. (ESPN 2)
- vs. Spurs on July 14 at 8:30 p.m. (NBA TV)
Detroit had a few spirited games with Orlando last season, though many of the players involved won’t be participating in Summer League. The Rockets are going to be very interesting now that they have the other half of the Thompson Twins. Summer League will be the first time the two have played against each other.
And we may or may not get to see #1 pick Victor Wembanyama in the final game of Summer League depending on whether the Spurs still have him in the lineup.
Detroit Pistons 2023 Summer League roster
Here is the Pistons 2023 Summer League roster:
- Jalen Duren
- Jared Rhoden
- Ausar Thompson
- Isaiah Livers
- James Wiseman
- Stanley Umude
- Malcolm Cazalon
- Jaden Ivey
- Marcus Sasser
- Zavier Simpson
- Buddy Boeheim
- Keifer Sykes
- Walter Ellis
- Tosan Evbuomwan
- Xavier Brewer
- Amar Sylla
- Jack Nunge
Obviously, Pistons fans are excited to see the new rookies Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser along with second-year players Jalen Duren and Jaden Ivey, whose participation will probably be limited to one or two games.
Good to see James Wiseman getting some run even though this will be his 4th season overall, as he has only played 84 games and needs the reps.
Some other names to watch will be Killian Hayes’ old teammate Malcolm Cazalon from France, who is an interesting do-it-all wing player. Tosan Evbuomwan from Princeton is another guy who has a legit shot at a two-way deal and will look to turn some heads.
Detroit Pistons Summer League uniforms
Here is a sneak peek at the Pistons’ revamped Summer League uniforms, which are actually better than some of the alternates (I’m looking at you Teal).
This offseason has already been too long, so it will be nice to get some games, even if they are just glorified scrimmages.
