Detroit Pistons predicted to pursue another draft bust

On paper, Bazley does seem like a fit for the Pistons, as he can play power forward, has good athleticism, is only 23-years-old and will be on a lowball deal.

After only playing 43 games last season, Bazley is likely to have to accept a minimum deal to show he has a place in an NBA rotation.

He would be a worthwhile gamble as a guy with some upside who can be had for cheap.

However, Bazley is not a good shooter, can’t spread the floor and would’t really be an upgrade over any of the guys the Pistons currently have battling for minutes.

He would just be another lottery ticket with long odds to ever be anything in the league, and haven’t we been down this road enough? Detroit could certainly use another power forward, but they need a starting-caliber guy, not someone who is going to battle Marvin Bagley III for minutes.

It wouldn’t be a tragedy if the Pistons decided to sign him to a small deal, and who knows, maybe this will be the bust that finally works out, but it really seems pointless unless you think he can actually compete for minutes in the rotation.

Bazley is not going to move the needle, but might be worth exploring on a minimum deal with no guaranteed second year, which is about as milquetoast as you can get for a move in free agency.
