Detroit Pistons: 4 things to look for in the Summer League
#3: Starting lineups and roles
The Detroit Pistons could use a number of different starting lineups in Summer League and I’m sure they will. These won’t ultimately matter, as this won’t be the starting five once the season starts, but it will give us an idea of roles we might see for certain players.
The Pistons could go in a lot of different ways:
- Marcus Sasser
- Jaden Ivey
- Ausar Thompson
- Isaiah Livers
- Jalen Duren
They could get al look at Ivey and Sasser as a starting backcourt and see how Livers and Thompson play off each other.
- Jaden Ivey
- Ausar Thompson
- Isaiah Livers
- James Wiseman
- Jalen Duren
Will the Pistons experiment with the two-big lineups that largely flopped last season? The best path for James Wiseman to get minutes will either be to win the backup center role outright or to play some at the four. But to be able to do that, he has to be able to play on the perimeter on both ends, so we’ll get our first look on how that is going. We might see Wiseman jacking more 3-pointers than usual in the Summer League.
There are many different possibilities and we’ll likely see players experimenting with various roles they could play once the games are real.
