Detroit Pistons: 4 things to look for in the Summer League
#4: Any gems?
There are only six players on the Summer League roster that are guaranteed to be on the team when the season starts in Jaden Ivey, Jalen Duren, James Wiseman, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Livers and Marcus Sasser.
Everyone else is competing for a spot, so the Detroit Pistons will be looking for a gem that slipped out of the draft or toiled in the G-League last season.
The Pistons have largely come up empty in this area, failing to find any undrafted talent or get anything from their two-way contracts. The best teams find guys late and outside of the draft, which is one of the reasons the Nuggets are Heat are almost always in the playoffs even though they rarely have high draft picks.
It would be nice for Detroit to find an undrafted rotation player or at least a guy who can fill a two-way role and step in if needed. One player to watch will be French prospect and former teammate of Killian Hayes, Malcolm Cazalon.
Another guy who could have an impressive Summer League is all-purpose forward Tosan Evbuomwan, who was a standout in Combine scrimmages.
