Raptors vs. Pistons prediction and odds for Wednesday, July 12

If you’re bad enough in the regular season for long enough then eventually you’ll have a loaded Summer League roster. That’s the case for the Detroit Pistons who are 1-1 in the Summer League in Vegas. The Toronto Raptors are 0-2 with their first-round pick, Gradey Dick leading the team.

The Pistons are favored with their starting lineup of five former first-round picks. Let’s get into the odds for this matchup.

The Pistons have a loaded starting lineup with Jalen Duran and James Wiseman in the front court with Jaden Ivey, Marcus Sasser and Ausar Thompson in the backcourt and on the wings. Against the Rockets in their loss, Ivey had 10 assists and 22 points and is clearly developing as a distributor. Somehow, with two shot blocking centers, they gave up 113 points in that matchup. Though it’s a little understandable because Jabari Smith Jr. went off for 38.

It’s usually good to have a Summer League team with a few veterans to make sure everything runs smoothly for your young players trying to get their shots up. The Pistons don’t have that and it’s led to a lot of turnovers 17 against Houston and 22 against the Magic, but they can just overwhelm Toronto with their talent.

Again, it’s a clunky fit for Detroit with two massive centers and not much floor spacing, but I can’t bet against the team with four lottery picks in its starting lineup. I’ll take Detroit to cover this one and I feel good about it as long as they don’t turn the ball over 25 times and hit at least a couple of threes. That’s a low bar and I think they clear it.
