The Detroit Pistons finished 4-1 in Summer League after last night’s win over the Indiana Pacers.

Most of the focus was on 5th pick Ausar Thompson, who didn’t disappoint, and put together a highlight reel that will have Pistons fans counting down the days until preseason.

Detroit still has a lot of question marks about the rotation and how new head coach Monty Williams is going to deploy all of these centers and guards, but it’s clear the Pistons have some young talent and should at least be exciting next season with Cade Cunningham returning along with Jaden Ivey and Jalen Duren.

It’s easy to overreact to Summer League, but I do have some hot takes after the Pistons’ last five games until the preseason begins.

Summer League should be longer

Maybe this is because I am staring down the barrel of a long offseason with no basketball, but I don’t see any reason why Summer League shouldn’t be a longer event. The top guys wouldn’t have to play any more than they already do, but expanding the Summer League to 10-15 games would allow teams to try out more players.

Some of the fringe guys would get more chances to showcase what they can do in live games, which is something that is hard to replicate in practice.

It would also shorten the drought between games for the diehards who now have to wait until the Fall to see another basketball game. I’m always a fan of more basketball and would love it if the Summer League were longer.
