Detroit Pistons: 5 hot takes from Summer League 2023
Tosan Evbuomwan will make the roster
If you just look at Tosan Evbuomwan’s numbers from Summer League, nothing really stands out, as he only averaged seven points, four rebounds and 1.3 assists in the three games that he played.
But his former coach from Princeton talked a lot about how he affects winning without putting huge numbers in the scorecard, comparing him to Draymond Green in the process.
That’s a pretty lofty and unfair comparison considering Draymond is a future Hall-of-Famer, but Evbuomwan does have some of those qualities. He’s a good defender who can cover several positions. He makes smart plays with the ball and has good court vision.
He had the highest +/- for any Pistons’ player in Summer League even though he didn’t put up huge counting stats.
I could see him getting the 15th roster spot and spending most of the season in the G-League with an occasional call up. It would be nice for the Pistons to find an undrafted gem, as it is an area where they haven’t had much success, so it will be worth keeping an eye on the fringe rotation players this season and whether they can get anything from their two-way contracts and G-League team.
