Pistons news: Troy Weaver becomes accidental man on the street
General Manager Troy Weaver of the Detroit Pistons has had a busy offseason so far.
He’s signed a new head coach, landed a couple more first-round picks in the Draft, swung on some underwhelming but pragmatic trades and has been a steady presence at Summer League.
Any of you who attended Summer League saw the Pistons go 4-1 behind some hopeful play from rookies Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser, as Thompson filled the scorecard and looked like the most athletic player on the floor, while Sasser dropped 40 in the last game, showing his offensive potential.
Weaver is still taking calls on possible trades, as the roster is still a bit wonky with too much invested in backup centers and guards.
So unlike the fans, who got to enjoy all that Las Vegas has to offer, Weaver has been busy on his phone and watching games, but he still had time to be a temporary resident of Las Vegas.
Pistons news: Troy Weaver becomes accidental man on the street
Aside from enjoying Summer League basketball, if you were in Las Vegas, you probably noticed the epic heat, which is usually surface-of-the-sun, end-of-days-level in July, and getting worse every year.
CNN was there doing interviews of people on the street to get their opinions, and there must not have been many around, as Troy Weaver got stopped, as the news organization mistook him for a resident of the city and wanted his opinion.
The funniest part of this is that Weaver was out doing a “power walk” in this heat. As someone who lived in Phoenix for many years, I can tell you that power walking was not on my agenda in July unless it was in an air conditioned gym.
We are now officially in the dog days of the offseason, but Weaver will stay busy, trying to tweak his roster, power walking and apparently becoming a resident of Las Vegas.
