Detroit Pistons: Greatest player at each height

6’5″

George Yardley

Adrian Dantley or George Yardley? It’s hard to compare the two, as they come from two completely different eras. Dantley was a remarkable scorer, with a hell of a post-game for his height. But A.D. was gone in the blink of an eye. Then again, Yardley wasn’t around for very long, either. Frankly, their numbers are comparable. Dantley did his thing for three years as a PIston, averaging 20.3 ppg and 3.8 rpg. Yardley, on the other hand, spent six seasons with the Pistons (some of those in Ft. Wayne) and averaged 19.1 ppg and 9.2 rpg.

Both of them had postseason success, with more than 30 games underneath their belts. Again, the numbers were similar but a slight edge has to go to A.D., who managed to help the Pistons get to within a single victory of an NBA championship.

With matters still not settled, we turn to the explosiveness of both Dantley and Yardley as they had some of the most impressive individual scoring outputs in team history. Adrian Dantely dropped 45 points on the Chicago Bulls in 1987. George Yardley scored 51 points against Boston in January of 1958. In February of 1958, Yardley bested himself with a 52 point gem against Syracuse. Point to the lack of competition if you want to, but then get off the couch and go drop a 50-spot at the closest rec center and get back to me.
