Detroit Pistons: Greatest player at each height

6’8″

Grant Hill

When it comes to 6’8” Pistons, there is only one: Grant Hill. Hill is the one player on this list that could have usurped Isiah Thomas as the greatest Piston of all time had he stuck around – and stayed healthy. He didn’t, and the rest is history, but even in that ever-so-short period of six exciting seasons, he was able to establish himself as one of the best players in franchise history.

After being taken with the 3rd overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft, expectations were high for the small forward from Duke. Hill surpassed even the loftiest expectations with his individual play, although he never was able to bring the team along with him. Grant’s personal accolades included being one of the only co-Rookies of the Year in league history, while also doing something that had never been done before in leading the league in fan balloting for the All-Star Game. Not only had a rookie never done that in the NBA, but it hadn’t happened in the NFL, NHL, or MLB. Mind you, both Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal were on the ballot, as well. Hill won a gold medal with the USA basketball team in 1996 as his career trajectory continued soaring upward as he became a triple-double machine that is now mentioned along with Larry Bird and Russell Westbrook for his all-around excellence.

Grant Hill was that dude. It’s a shame he didn’t stay healthy and finish his career with the Pistons, something he must have second-guessed not doing at least a couple of times. As it stands, he’s still the greatest teal-sporting basketballer the Pistons ever had.
