Detroit Pistons: 6 teams that need a center and what they could trade
Depending on who you ask, the Detroit Pistons may have one too many centers.
I qualify it because there are some out there who believe one of James Wiseman or Marvin Bagley III can play some at the four, a belief I do not share.
There are also some that believe that Detroit should carry four centers, as two of them are injury prone and it’s possible that they won’t all be healthy at the same time. This concern makes much more sense, though most teams don’t carry a $12.5 million “break in case of emergency” center on the bench.
So it’s possible that the Detroit Pistons will make a trade to relieve the logjam, or will just let them battle it out for minutes and see who emerges before evaluating and making a move before next year’s trade deadline.
If the Pistons do decide to make a trade, here are six teams that could use a center and may have something to offer.
Detroit Pistons: 6 teams that need a center and what they could trade
Cleveland Cavaliers
Current centers: Jarrett Allen, Damian Jones, Evan Mobley
Trade pieces: Isaac Okoro, Georges Niang
The Cavs don’t have much behind Jarrett Allen at center and could potentially use someone at the position who can score. Would a Marvin Bagley III for Isaac Okoro interest anyone? The Cavs would get depth and scoring at center while the Pistons would get another defender on the wing.
Dallas Mavericks
Current centers: Dwight Powell, Richaun Holmes, Dereck Lively III
Trade pieces: Josh Green, Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber
Dwight Powell and Richaun Holmes certainly aren’t the most exciting center duo in the league and I’m sure the Mavericks would like an upgrade. They’ve been mentioned as possible trade partner with the Pistons forever but it appears the Mavs are unwilling to meet the Pistons’ asking price when it comes to Bojan Bogdanovic.
Taking on MBIII’s contract might be one way Dallas could sweeten the pot.
