The Detroit Pistons had some busy days early in the offseason, but as August has rolled around, things have slowed down.

August is probably the worst month of the NBA calendar, as the wheeling and dealing has slowed to a halt and  we are still months away from training camp.

We have little left but to argue about possible starting lineups and debate which of our young players is going to break out next season.

But there are a few things to look forward to in August, as the NBA tries to keep its stranglehold on fans’ attention.

3 things for Detroit Pistons fans to look forward to in August

The big trade

The entire NBA is waiting for the Damian Lillard and James Harden sagas to unfold, as both stars have demanded trades from their current teams.

The Pistons aren’t going to be trading for either one of them, but could get involved as a third team in one of the deals. Even if the aren’t, these trades are likely to shift the balance of the league slightly and could have a ripple effect on the Pistons down the line.

The World Cup

The FIBA World Cup starts on August 25th, which will give us a welcome respite from the basketball drought. Both Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren are on the USA Select team that will practice and scrimmage against Team USA leading up to the event.

If any of the regulars have to pull out for any reason, we could see one of the Pistons on the team, though Cade Cunningham was already asked and turned it down, so the more likely choice would be Duren filling in for an injured big man.

Having known a few basketball fanatics from the Phillippines over the years, I am looking forward to the games held there, as the crowds should be nuts.

The NBA schedule

We’ll likely get our first look at the 2023-24 schedule in August, another thing to look forward to for Pistons fans who are eager to start digging through it and looking for possible matchups. Detroit has a chance to build some great rivalries with teams like Orlando and Houston, games I will have marked on the calendar.
