The Detroit Pistons have been quiet after making a flurry of moves to start the offseason.
The roster is still unbalanced, as the Pistons have a lot of centers but no real power forward and plenty of guards but not enough wings.
They could still make a trade to address their biggest need, which is quality depth at the forward position.
Players like Killian Hayes and Marvin Bagley III have been mentioned as possible trade bait, but neither of them are going to get much on the market considering Hayes still struggles to shoot the ball and Bagley III can’t stay healthy.
So for the Detroit Pistons to move one or both of these players, they are either going to have to take a lowball deal, make it part of a larger trade or find a team that is in a desperate situation.
Should the Pistons attempt this sign-and-trade with Charlotte?
One such team is the Charlotte Hornets, who are reportedly in a standoff with forward PJ Washington over his next contract.
Washington is coming off his best season where he averaged 15 points and five rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game while showing some ability to stretch the floor as a power forward or small ball center.
The two sides are reportedly miles apart on a deal, as the Hornets are hoping to get him for near the MLE next season, while Washington is looking for more than $18 million per year.
The Hornets have the option of signing him to a deal and then trading him to another team, which is where the Detroit Pistons could get involved.
