Detroit Pistons: The most difficult training camp battle to predict

The battle I am referring to is for the backup center position, as it appears that Jalen Duren is the guy the Detroit Pistons will use in the starting role.

That leaves Marvin Bagley III and James Wiseman to fight to be his backup.

When the Pistons sent out Saddiq Bey in a trade that eventually landed them former #2 pick James Wiseman, it was a bit of a head scratcher that looks even more questionable now.

Detroit already had their center of the future in Jalen Duren, a versatile big in Isaiah Stewart and Marvin Bagley III, so adding Wiseman made little sense unless this was the 1990’s. You can only play so many bigs at the same time in the modern NBA, especially when none of them can shoot.

Detroit rolled the dice on Wiseman’s talent and upside, but now have four big men, two of which (Wiseman and MBIII) have very similar skillsets and weaknesses.

That’s why the Bagley III vs. Wiseman battle is the most difficult one to predict.
