The blockbuster trade that makes no sense for the Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have been mentioned in a lot of trade rumors over the last year, but so far, the big deal has not come.

Last season, we had to endure weeks of Bojan Bogdanovic speculation, only for the Pistons to ultimately keep the 34-year-old sharpshooter (at least for now).

There are a couple of things stopping Detroit from swinging for that big trade. The first is that they haven’t really seen their young core play together, so it would be foolish to break that up before they even know what they have.

The second is that the Pistons don’t have a first-round pick they can trade until 2029 or the one they owe the Knicks is conveyed, so it will be difficult for them to put together a trade package for a star that doesn’t involve one or more of their young core.

Is there a big trade out there for the Detroit Pistons?

Given that the Pistons are still in their developmental stage, and most of their best players are young, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense for them to go out and trade for a star in the latter stages of his career.

And most of these types of players don’t want to go to rebuilding teams anyway, so you can rule out guys like James Harden and Damian Lillard ever coming to the Motor City.

There may be some teams out there dangling stars this season, but not all of them are great matches for the Detroit Pistons.
