Detroit Pistons: 7 compelling point guard matchups for Cade Cunningham
The Detroit Pistons didn’t sign an impact free-agent this offseason, but are hoping the return of Cade Cunningham will be the biggest addition of all.
Cunningham missed all but 12 games last season, which set back the entire team, as he is the centerpiece on offense, the engine that makes the team go.
Without him, the Detroit Pistons stalled, winning just 17 games and claiming the title of worst team in the NBA.
Cade Cunningham is just one of many talented young point guards in the league right now, and when you factor in the old guard, there will be some compelling matchups for Detroit’s rising star.
Detroit Pistons: 7 compelling point guard matchups for Cade Cunningham
Cade Cunningham vs. LaMelo Ball
We’ll get his one early in the season in a battle of two guys who just need to stay healthy. Both Cade and LaMelo are pretty much everything for their respective teams offensively and it will be interesting to see how both look early in the season.
Cade Cunningham vs. Scoot Henderson
Another early game on the schedule, we’ll get our first glimpse of Scoot Henderson on November 1st. Scoot’s athleticism should present some problems for Cunningham, who may end up defending someone else in this one, but he should be able to shoot over the smaller Henderson.
Cade Cunningham vs. Stephen Curry
Curry is the reigning king of all point guards right now, but can Cade start to at least budge the crown? Hopefully, this one will feature about 10 alley-oops to James Wiseman.
Cade Cunningham vs. Tyrese Haliburton
Two of the best young point guards in the Eastern Conference on old-school rivals who should be near each other in the standings. It is time to start hating the Pacers again.
Cade Cunningham vs. Jalen Brunson
Brunson torched the Pistons a couple of times last season, but hopefully Cade will be able to slow him down and use his size to create mismatches on the other end.
Cade Cunningham vs. Luka Doncic
Cade has often been compared to Luka Doncic and Team USA actually used him in that role to help them prepare for Luka in the FIBA World Cup that kicks off in a few days.
Cade Cunningham vs. Josh Giddey
I think Giddey is an underrated player who shares a lot of the same qualities as Cade Cunningham, as he is a stat stuffer who can contribute in a lot of ways. Both guys came out of the same draft, and after Giddey had a big season last year while Cunningham was on the sidelines, so it’s time for Cade to show who the best point guard from the 2012 Draft really is.
