The Detroit Pistons have had a relatively quiet offseason, but with Cade Cunningham returning and some exciting new additions, fans are looking forward to the start of NBA Training Camp.

The Pistons will have plenty at stake in training camp, as they have several positional battles and guys trying to earn spots in the rotation, with very little guaranteed.

There are only a few locks for the Pistons’ rotation and everyone else will be competing for a spot, which should make for an exciting preseason.

Will Killian Hayes be able to beat out one of the veteran guards or Marcus Sasser to keep his spot in the rotation? Which center will emerge as the backup to Jalen Duren?

Will Monty Williams use two bigs? Will Joe Harris be able to make an impact? Will Ausar Thompson be in the Pistons’ starting lineup?

All of these questions will start to be answered when Detroit opens training camp in less than a month.

When does NBA Training Camp start?

For teams that are playing preseason games outside of North America, training camp opens on September 27th, but for the rest of the league, including the Detroit Pistons, it will tip off on October 3rd.

Preseason games begin just two days later, so teams won’t have long to start putting together their rotations before playing in live games.

The Detroit Pistons will not only be introducing a new head coach, but will be integrating several new players onto the team, so we can expect some growing pains throughout preseason and into the beginning of the regular season.

But we can also expect some renewed energy and excitement, as a new season brings new possibilities and a chance to put last year’s 17-win disaster in the rearview mirror permanently.

The Pistons won’t play their first preseason game until October 8th, so they will have almost a full week of practice before Monty Williams has to fill out a lineup card. Unfortunately, they are playing three games on the road, including one in Canada, so Detroit is going be adjusting on the fly.

The FIBA World Cup has been a nice distraction, but it will be nice to get the 2023-24 season underway in just under a month.
