It may not seem like it, but we aren’t far away from meaningful Detroit Pistons’ basketball.

For fans of the non-playoff teams, especially those of us who don’t like the NFL, the offseason can be tortuously long, but we are now just 43 days from the first Detroit Pistons’ game of the regular season.

Training camp starts next month, so we are inching closer to our first look at the Pistons with Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren on the court together at the same time.

Detroit Pistons’ season countdown: 43 days for #43

Anthony Tolliver played for some mediocre Pistons’ teams during the Stan Van Gundy era, doing a two-year stint from 2014-16 and then coming back for the 2017-18 season.

Tolliver’s popularity always outweighed his production, as he was a likable, hard-working player who went undrafted before playing for 11 different NBA teams over 13 seasons, and fans always appreciate guys like that.

In his best year for Detroit, he averaged 8.9 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 43.6 percent from 3-point range, which was 6th in the NBA that season.

Tolliver was never a star player, but was one of the prototypes for the 3-and-D stretch four that has become the norm in the NBA. The Detroit Pistons could actually use a guy like him now, as they lack depth at the position and could use a guy who can come off the bench, make hustle plays and knock down some 3-point shots.

Hopefully, Isaiah Livers can fill the Tolliver role, as he has a similar makeup as a guy who plays smart team defense, can defend a few spots and hit long-range shots.

Anthony Tolliver was certainly not an all-time great, but he’s always been remembered fondly in Detroit because of the way he went about his business. So here’s to Anthony Tolliver and to only 43 more days until basketball starts again.
