8 Detroit Pistons that never played a single minute
8 Detroit Pistons that never played a single minute
7. Jonny Flynn
If you think the Memphis Grizzlies are still kicking themselves about the 2009 NBA Draft, consider how the Minnesota Timberwolves are feeling.
They drafted not one, but TWO point guards just ahead of Stephen Curry, which I would rank as the worst draft blunder of all time.
It was one thing to take Ricky Rubio, who was widely considered the best point guard prospect in that draft, but then to take Jonny Flynn with the very next pick made so little sense that it still makes my head hurt. The wild thing looking back on it is that Rubio and Curry would have made an amazing backcourt together, so the Flynn pick radically changed the course of NBA history.
Like Thabeet, Flynn was only briefly a Piston, as the team signed him on October 1st, 2012 and waived him just 21 days later. He never played a minute for the Detroit Pistons, but is far more connected to the 2009 draft and the eventual dynasty in Golden State.
