Extensions and replacements

This one is again tacitly related to the Detroit Pistons or has the potential to be.

There are still 20 players from the 2020 NBA Draft class who have not signed rookie extensions. This is big, as any player who doesn’t sign by October 24th will enter the season on an expiring deal and eventually become a free agent.

The Pistons will have cap space next offseason and could make a run at one of these restricted free agents, and there is one in particular (Jaden McDaniels) whose extension status and progress we should be watching very closely, as he would be a nice fit in Detroit and is a guy they could possibly steal away.

I also like Patrick Williams from the Bulls, so keep an eye out for news of their upcoming extensions, as they could affect how the Pistons do business down the road.

Detroit should also be keeping an eye out for replacements for the six players they have who are on expiring contracts. Veteran shooters, two-way wings and power forwards will all be on the wishlist next offseason, so it’s a good time to start scouting for potential replacements if the Pistons decide not to bring back some of their own guys.
