3 Non-Pistons storylines fans should be glued to this season
Old men trying for one last ring
Every now and then as a basketball fan it is worth taking a breath, sitting back and just watching history being made.
That’s where we are with LeBron James and Stephen Curry, two all-time greats who aren’t going to be around forever, but still have a chance to win another title before their windows close.
Whether you love LeBron or hate him, I think it’s worth acknowledging that you are watching one of the best basketball players of all time and a career that we are unlikely to see equaled.
James is entering his 21st season in the NBA and is still one of its best players. Just let that sink in a bit. For some of you, you’ve never known an NBA without LeBron and he’s been great for literally your entire life. There are few players who have even played this long in the NBA, and none who were still this good, as guys like Kareem were a shadow of their former selves by their 20th season. Abdul-Jabbar never had a 21st.
You can argue whether LeBron is the greatest player, but it’s hard to argue against his career. Same with Stephen Curry, who changed the game of basketball and is still a joy to watch.
I’m excited to see these two chase a title again and then a Gold Medal in the Paris Olympics.
One thing you learn from being old is not to take things for granted. Like them or not, there’s never going to be another LeBron or Curry, so enjoy them while you can.
