Roadblocks the Pistons must overcome to be competitive this season
An unbalanced roster
Troy Weaver is under pressure to win for the first time in his career as GM of the Detroit Pistons, but his roster is still suspect.
Detroit’s lack of viable power forward options has forced them to pigeonhole Isaiah Stewart into this role, which will hopefully work out, but is still a work in progress.
They have two backup centers making a combined $25 million next season and one of them isn’t even likely to be in the rotation.
They have a lot of guards, not enough wings and too many one-way players who either can’t defend or offer little on the offensive end.
Yes, they have exciting young talent, and yes, the veterans should help, but this team is lacking in the forward department and probably needs to make a trade at some point.
It would be nice to see the Detroit Pistons as a buyer this season, and not just a team waiting to sell off their veterans to the highest bidder for future assets. If they really want to be competitive this season, they will likely have to tweak the roster at some point.
