The LA Clippers could eventually be a trade partner for the Detroit Pistons
The James Harden trade was a much larger risk for the LA Clippers, who just put all of their eggs into the Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, James Harden and Russell Westbrook basket, which could have disastrous results.
Am I the only one who thinks this is going to blow up in their faces? The Clippers are still doomed if one of their “Big 3” gets hurt and we’ve seen enough of Harden and Westbrook together to guess it’s not going to work.
But it was worth a flyer for LA, as they weren’t going anywhere anyway and Harden at least gives them a higher ceiling even if it also lowers the floor.
The Clippers will likely look to move Westbrook at some point, but good luck with that, as there aren’t going to be many takers for the 34-year-old, though his contract is very moveable.
They could also look to trade a guy like Norman Powell, who could be the odd man out now that they have secured Harden. Powell would also potentially be a nice trade asset for them if things don’t work out.
I’ve always liked Powell, who might be an interesting target for the Detroit Pistons if the Clippers go into sell mode or feel they need to shake things up.
It will take some time for the dust to settle from this blockbuster trade, but in the end, there might be two more teams that are possible trade partners with the Pistons whether they are buyers or sellers at the deadline.
