Akiem has obtained a diploma in Broadcast Media Art from Specs Howard School of Media Arts, and is currently attending Rochester College for Mass Communication. In addition to his educational background, he has experience interning for CBS sister station, WKBD and WWJ-TV in Detroit. He has also served as a sports production assistant at Oakland University for games streaming live on ESPN3. In his spare time, he is debating or writing about sports and catching up on all the good movies. His ultimate goal is to cover the Olympics someday.
