The Detroit Pistons need to find Cade Cunningham some offensive help this summer. But the Minnesota Timberwolves are also going to be looking to shake things up around Anthony Edwards. As a result, the Pistons and Wolves could look at some of the same trade targets. So, Cunningham better hope that the Pistons act faster, because Edwards could steal his potential new teammate.

Cunningham’s need for help on the offensive end has been well-documented. The Pistons need more players who can create for themselves and others. But the Wolves may be looking for the same thing, as Edwards could use the same type of support, especially if they decide to move on from Julius Randle.

Detroit and Minnesota may fight for similar trade targets, and Cunningham just needs to hope the Pistons win the arms race.

During this year’s playoffs, the Pistons struggled to generate consistent offense. When Cunnigham had it going, they were okay. But when he didn’t, it was a complete disaster.

Tobias Harris helped out for the first round. Caris LeVert even gave the Pistons a little spark at points. But outside of Cunningham, Detroit didn’t have a single source of consistent offense in the playoffs.

That’s a problem. Shot-making is one of the most important things in the playoffs. And the Pistons just didn’t have enough players who could make shots outside of Cunningham.

Then, taking a look at the way the Wolves are structured, Edwards is far and away the best scorer on the team. Jaden McDaniels stepped up on offense in the playoffs. And Naz Reid is a talented offensive player. But at times in the postseason, Randle was their second option for creation.

And though Randle can enjoy a solid offensive game from time to time, he’s nowhere near the consistent creator Edwards and the Wolves need deep into the postseason.

As a result, they could look to target a guy like Kyrie Irving. Or maybe even a Kawhi Leonard. A player who could take the ball in his hands and make something happen.

Well, those are the exact types of players the Pistons should be keeping an eye on this summer, as they need to make a trade to help out Cunningham.

So, it’ll be Cunningham vs. Edwards. Pistons vs. Wolves. Two teams fighting to trade for star power to help their franchise superstar.

And Cunningham better hope his side can win the battle.
