Cade Cunningham, Ja Morant and new injuries in Pistons vs. Grizzlies
The Detroit Pistons won on a thrilling buzzer beater against the Toronto Raptors, but let’s not get too excited.
The Raptors are one of the NBA’s worst teams, they were on the second game of a road back-to-back and the Pistons did not play well.
It was the type of game you rarely win, as the Raptors dominated the offensive glass and took more than two dozen more shots than the Pistons, who made it up on the free-throw line.
They won’t beat many teams playing like that, particularly not the Memphis Grizzlies, who they face on the road tonight.
The Grizz have won three straight and have moved into 5th in the Western Conference, so they are an actual good team, not one of the pretenders in the East where there are only four teams with winning records.
Both teams will be shorthanded tonight, so the Pistons will have a fighting chance. This would be a big one for them, as Detroit is entering a dangerous part of the schedule that threatens to undo their improved start.
Pistons injuries vs. Grizzlies: Will Cade Cunningham play tonight?
Cade Cunningham is still listed as doubtful, so it’s likely we’ll be seeing him on the bench in street clothes again tonight. The Pistons aren’t going to rush him back and if I had to guess, I’d say he’ll at least be out until the home game against Philly at the end of the month.
Tobias Harris is listed as questionable, also with some type of hip impingement. Harris rarely misses games, so I’d expect to see him in there tonight if he can go.
The Grizzlies will be missing star guard Ja Morant, Vince Williams Jr., Zach Edey and GG Jackson, who are all ruled out for tonight’s game.
The Pistons will have to do a much better job on the glass tonight against Jaren Jackson Jr., especially with Zach Edey out.
Jalen Duren had more pep in his step in the last game, and it did seem like involving him more on offense kept him engaged on defense, so the Pistons may go back to him early to try and get him going again.
Duren had one of his best games of the season against Toronto, so it would be nice to see him start to stack quality defensive efforts.
