The Detroit Pistons need to find Cade Cunningham some help, and there have been some rumors that they could target Tyler Herro, who is now on the Milwaukee Bucks. But if the Boston Celtics trade Jaylen Brown to the Portland Trail Blazers, the Pistons and Cunningham should shift their focus to trying to pry away Shaedon Sharpe or Jrue Holiday.
Boston would probably want to keep those assets in a deal, but the Pistons should at least inquire about potentially taking them away. Sharpe, in particular, could be a very interesting long-term addition for the Pistons to consider, especially considering he’s on a relatively team-friendly contract.
Herro would be a great addition for the Pistons, but trying to work something out with the Celtics and Blazers could be even more interesting.
Pistons should consider jumping in Celtics-Blazers Jaylen Brown trade
At first, the rumor was that the Pistons could get involved as the third team in a deal with the Bucks and Miami Heat, with Giannis Antetokounmpo ending up in Miami and Herro going to the Pistons.
In the end, the Bucks and the Heat decided to do business themselves, with no third team involved. Now, Herro is in Milwaukee, and there’s no guarantee that the Bucks will trade him.
They could definitely keep him around, but they could also decide to flip him (potentially to the Pistons) in exchange for additional assets. That would be great for Cunningham and the Pistons.
However, Sharpe makes a lot less money than Herro does, and he’s younger. He could have the potential to be a great co-star alongside Cunningham, playing the shooting guard position.
Holiday makes a lot of money, but his 3-and-D abilities (along with his underrated ball-handling) could be great. Plus, his veteran presence would definitely help the Pistons as they try to win at the highest level.
Obviously, of those two players, the Pistons would probably have a lot more interest in Sharpe, especially because of his age and contract, but Holiday could be a solid add for the Pistons, too.
Again, adding Herro would still be good for the Pistons. He’s the exact type of player they should be looking to place alongside Cunningham. But there might be some more intriguing assets for them to snag from a Boston-Portland deal for Brown.
It would all depend on how much the Bucks would want for Herro vs. how much the Celtics could want (in theory) for Sharpe or Holiday.
