Every report since the offseason began has all but confirmed that the Detroit Pistons will be aggressive this summer to upgrade the roster around Cade Cunningham.
Trey Murphy III has been listed as a top target for Trajan Langdon, and the rumors swirling about Detroit's interest in Tyler Herro is just another example of what the team is looking for.
The Pistons hope to find a reliable second option for Cunningham that can take the offensive burden off of their star guard, and in turn, they're hoping to find a long-term fit at the same time.
We're getting close to the point of the offseason where it'll no longer be just rumors swirling about what the Pistons plan to do, but their actions will speak louder than the words from NBA Insiders.
And wth the NBA Draft less than 30 hours away, the chances of a Pistons swing coming at any moment are higher than they've ever been.
Any big Pistons trade will likely involve their first-round pick
Detroit owns the No. 21 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, but the chances of the Pistons being on the clock when it's their turn to select are truly 50/50.
This year's draft class is loaded, and there's no doubt that Detroit could land a solid player if they stand pat, but the reality of the situation is that the team's first-round pick is one of the team's top trade assets, outside of Isaiah Stewart.
Of the targets already mentioned for Detroit, it feels like, as the draft approaches, talks will heat up, with the chances of a deal getting done in the next 48 hours pretty high.
The New Orleans Pelicans asking price for Murphy III is reportedly extremely high, and with draft capital as the biggest selling point for any deal to land the versatile wing, including this year's first-round pick in a potential package, is expected to be the starting point in negotiations.
Outside of Murphy III, if the Pistons are monitoring any other stars on the trade block, whether that be Herro, Lauri Markkanen, or any other potential names who haven't been revealed, advancing talks before the draft would allow Detroit to potentially salvage future draft comps, which, considering the new lottery reform, could be much more valuable picks in the future.
This is not to say Detroit may not target names like Coby White in free agency, but if a bold trade his on the horizon, all signs point to talks heating up in the next day that will reveal just how aggressive the Pistons plan to be this offseason.
At the same time, if Detroit stands pat to make their selection at No. 21, Langdon's plan for the summer will officially raise some eyebrows.
