The Detroit Pistons made another move, trading for Dennis Schroder, who had already been traded to the Utah Jazz.

After a couple of lackluster moves that divided the fanbase, Trajan Langdon got the help that many were hoping for.

If you had to list the Pistons two biggest needs, they would likely be adding another ballhandler and scorer to help Cade Cunningham and possibly adding some size in the front court.

The Pistons checked the first box with Schroder, a guy I have always liked, who is averaging 14.4 points and over five assists per game splitting the season between Brooklyn and Golden State.

He’s a guy who can hit 3-pointers, create off the dribble, play on or off the ball and will be able to spell Cade Cunningham as the primary ballhandler.

Some fans were hoping for a blockbuster even though there were no realistic options, but most hoped the Pistons would do something to get Cade Cunningham some help, and they did with this move.

Detroit Pistons cap space and roster

It will be interesting to see how this deal ends up going down, as the Pistons have taken on three players in previous deadline trades.

Schroder fits neatly into the Pistons cap space if they use their exceptions on the other three, which means at least two of them are likely to be waived.

My guess is that Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson will not play for the Pistons and have no idea about KJ Martin, who seems to be the most promising of the three in terms of age and talent.

This move come comes on the heels of the news about Jaden Ivey’s injury, which wasn’t all doom and gloom, but wasn’t good either, as he’ll be evaluated in another four weeks which makes it unlikely, we’ll see him again this season.

Schroder is on an expiring contract, so this move allows the Pistons to add talent at a position of need without any long-term commitments.

Given that Trajan Langdon had already pocketed three 2nd-round picks for nothing, this has been a good trade deadline for the Pistons, as they haven’t done anything rash, but have added a guy who can help them make a run at the playoffs.

This is exactly the type of moderate move I hoped the Pistons would make, and can’t wait to see Schroder, who must be ecstatic that he’s not going to Utah.

We’ll have more details about the trade deadline as they emerge.
