Pistons smartly make it easy for fans to jump on the bandwagon

I interact with fans of the Detroit Pistons nearly every day, and by far the most common complaint I’ve heard over the years comes from people who are unable to watch games even though they live in Michigan. 

For years, the NBA has completely ignored this issue, which is a big one, as local fans were essentially being shut out from watching games legally, which forced many of them to turn to illegal streams. The games aren't on TV and are blacked out on League Pass for local fans, so they really didn't have many options.

Adam Silver, who loves to tell fans what they want instead of listening to them, decided to crack down on illegal streams instead of addressing the real problem. 

This came to a head when he basically told the people who couldn’t afford to spend thousands on all of the streaming packages you’d need to watch Pistons games that they should just watch highlights on social media instead.  

Aside from his embrace of gross private equity money and filthy gambling money, Silver’s handling of this situation has been one of the low points for a tenure as commissioner that has had plenty of them. 

Luckily, the Detroit Pistons are taking matters into their own hands and making it easier to watch games for free. 

Where to watch Detroit Pistons games for free 

The Pistons announced that they will be partnering with local broadcasters next season to bring most of the games to the local fans for free. 

The games will be shown for free in the Grand Rapids area on The Spot Grand Rapids 17 and Fox 17 WXMI-TV, both of which are available for free as long as you have some bunny ears or whatever it takes to get terrestrial television these days. 

As for the Detroit market, games will be shown on WYMD-TV, which is channel 20 locally. 

The Pistons are one of several teams taking back control of their broadcasts from the gambling mafia, and though they won’t have every single game, you will be able to watch most of them for free if you live in the Detroit area, which is a huge step in the right direction. 

And the timing couldn’t have been better. 

The Pistons bandwagon is taking applications 

The Pistons are off back-to-back playoff appearances, which hasn’t happened since I had far fewer gray hairs in my beard. 

They have an exciting superstar and a roster that embodies the spirit of Detroit basketball with their work ethic and defense. Many local fans will get their first real look at these Pistons and will be joining just as they start hunting titles. 

The timing of this is perfect to get more local fans into the Pistons, who are still second bananas (at best) behind the Lions. 

Now that local fans will be able to more easily watch the games, there should be even more excitement around the team, so this was a smart move by the team that will build the fanbase.
