Detroit Pistons' statistics: Most important numbers so far

Detroit is off to another slow start to the year. But what do the deeper numbers suggest?

16: Turnovers per game

As already mentioned, Detroit just cannot close out their games. Even if they are competitive, they have not been able to put it all together for a win this year. One major aspect of that is the turnovers that have plagued the Pistons this year. 16 turnovers per game is terrible. Detroit is 8th in the NBA in most turnovers per game, the most being the Raptors with 20.3. We’ve already seen it cost Detroit a game, having turned the ball over 22 times against Cleveland.

Cade, himself, is third in the NBA in turnovers per game with 5.7 (James Harden is 1st with 6.7). Seven of these have come in the fourth quarter, which is unacceptable for a player on a max like Cade is. He’s struggled with turnovers his entire career, but cleaned things up as the year went on last season. Let’s hope the same is true for this year.

2021-2022: Last time Detroit started 0-4

Thanks to Detroit being a bottom barrel team for quite some time now, and the historic losing streak they had last season, you would probably assume that we have made a habit of starting the season out on a losing streak. That actually isn’t the case, as the last time Detroit started 0-4 was back in 2021-2022.

Now, that isn’t that long ago, but it really was a whole different team then (Dwane Casey was our coach and Cade Cunningham was just a rookie). That team started the year with two against the Bulls, then Atlanta, and then the 76ers. A far cry from the gauntlet the Pistons start this year with. That team won their fifth game, by the way, which the Pistons hope to do tonight against the 76ers.
