Ja Morant is hiding an underrated Pistons trade target in plain sight

Ja Morant is taking over the trade deadlines for the Memphis Grizzlies, but the Detroit Pistons should take a look at Ty Jerome.

The Memphis Grizzlies sneakily still have Ty Jerome on the roster, and he could be an ideal Detroit Pistons trade target this summer. Ja Morant is taking over most of the trade headlines in Memphis, but Jerome is hidden right behind him. His combination of shot creation and three-point shooting would be an ideal addition to the Pistons’ lineup, and they wouldn’t even have to trade away their biggest contracts to bring him on board.

Jerome is on a great deal, and adding him would still, in theory, give the Pistons enough wiggle room to make a big-swing trade to add a star alongside Cade Cunningham. He would be a great role player to have on the roster, and though he may not be the star people are hoping for, he would definitely help run the offense.

He’s a perfect trade target for the Pistons to consider.

Pistons should consider a Ty Jerome trade

Jerome was injured for a large portion of the season. However, when he did return to action for the Grizzlies, he played great. In fact, he played well enough to earn a spot on plenty of teams’ trade-target lists this summer.

In his 15 appearances (admittedly a small sample size), Jerome put up pretty impressive numbers. He averaged 19.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 47.4% from the field and 42.0% from deep range on 6.7 three-point attempts per contest.

Having another guy who can handle the ball is exactly what the Pistons need. Cunningham was their primary offensive creator in this year’s playoffs, but there wasn’t much creation behind him.

In an ideal world, the Pistons would be able to add another star player. Someone like Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, or, in a dream world, Franz Wagner.

But why stop there? Why not also add even more shot creation to the bench unit? The Pistons should try to bring in as much creation as possible, and Jerome would be just that.

He’s on a pretty good contract, too. Jerome is set to make $9.2 million next season and has a $9.6 million player option the following year. That’s an easy contract to trade for.

Jerome is also the type of player who could easily share the court with anybody the Pistons decide to roll out. He’s a great catch-and-shoot guy, so his floor spacing would be very useful.

Morant may be taking up the headlines in Memphis. He may be traded this summer. But the Pistons should take a look at Jerome instead.
