The Detroit Pistons have one of the best rosters in the NBA, but JB Bickerstaff still has a secret weapon to deploy because of how dominant Isaac Jones has been in the G League. Jones was waived by the Sacramento Kings in November of 2025, and the Pistons picked him up and signed him to a two-way contract.
And so far this season, during his time with the Pistons’ G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, Jones has been incredible. Bickerstaff may have another quality player just waiting in the wings. While it may not happen this season, Jones could be a very intriguing piece for the Pistons at some point down the line.
Jones may quickly become too good for Bickerstaff to deploy.
Pistons have very intriguing player in Isaac Jones
So far this season, Jones has only appeared in two games for the Pistons (having played in just three games for the Kings prior to being waived earlier this season).
However, while he hasn’t gotten much NBA action, Jones has been one of the best players in the G League this year, and Bickerstaff could have a very interesting player on his hands.
Jones has appeared in 34 games for the Cruise so far this season. He has played 29.4 minutes per contest, and he’s made the most of all of that playing time.
In those 34 games, Jones has averaged 18.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 60.0% from the field and 30.0% from deep range on 2.3 three-point attempts per contest.
While those stats alone are already impressive, Jones’ recent box scores have stood out even more. And eventually, when the Pistons need him, he could be a solid rotation piece.
The Cruise has won eight straight games, and Jones has been a starter for them in all eight. He has played 30 or more minutes in each game, and the one game he didn’t reach the 30-minute mark was a big-time win over the Maine Celtics.
In Jones’ most recent game, Jones put up 37 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, one steal, and one block while shooting 14-of-16 from the floor. The Cruise picked up a 129-119 win over the Delaware Blue Coats in that one.
The Pistons already have solid big men on the roster. Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart, and Paul Reed are more than capable of holding down the fort.
But when Bickerstaff needs him most, he may have a perfect secret weapon to deploy in Jones.
