The Detroit Pistons just did their end-of-season exit interviews, and Trajan Langdon made it clear that the team wants Tobias Harris back this summer. Harris will be an unrestricted free agent, but based on Langdon’s statement, it seems as though the organization will make it their mission to ensure that he’s back in Detroit next season.

Harris played well for the Pistons this postseason, despite an unfortunate end for both him and the team. He was a crucial scorer for them alongside Cade Cunningham, and without his efforts, Detroit may not have made it out of the first round. Add in the impact he’s made behind the scenes, and it makes sense that the Pistons would want him back.

Unless he gets a better offer, it seems likely that Harris will be back with the Pistons.

Pistons want to re-sign Tobias Harris this summer

Harris inked a deal with the Pistons in the summer of 2024. At the time, some people thought the two-year, $52 million contract was too much for Harris, as his time with the Philadelphia 76ers wasn’t ideal.

When in Philly, Harris quickly became the scapegoat for the failures of the organization, as he was overpaid at the time. But he’s spent the last two years proving that Detroit’s faith in him was smart.

He’s been a stabilizing force for the Pistons, especially as Cunningham has grown into the top option he is today. Having a veteran like Harris is crucial, and as Langdon spoke about the team’s desire to bring him back, he specifically mentioned Harris’ locker-room presence. (H/t Michael Scotto of HoopsHype)

“His approach and professionalism has been huge in terms of us establishing the environment we have in the past two years… They call him Unc for a reason… We hope that we can bring him back. He’s somebody we want to keep in a Pistons uniform.”

Harris is already 33 years old. He’s entering the latter portion of his NBA career. However, he can still play. And he can still help the Pistons win basketball games.

So, while the contract may be significantly cheaper than the one Harris signed with the Pistons two years ago, he should still be able to cash in this summer.

And for Detroit, bringing Harris back should be worth the price of admission. He’s been super important for them both on the court and behind the scenes.

It sounds like the Pistons very clearly want to re-sign Harris this summer.
