There were always questions of fit with Jaden Ivey, though he never got much chance to answer them when injuries cut his time with the Pistons short.Â
The perfect two-guard next to Cade Cunningham would likely be a guy who can shoot the 3-ball at a high level and defend the position, something the Pistons get in a recent mock draft from Fanbsided, which has them drafting Cameron Carr from Baylor.Â
Carr has great size for the position at 6-foot-6, though he could stand to put on some muscle, and has the high-level athleticism and sweet 3-point stroke that should allow him to thrive at the next level.Â
Duncan Robinson may be back next season, but the Pistons will be looking for a long-term solution on the wing, and Carr would be a guy who could potentially check a lot of boxes.Â
Cameron Carr is a complete player who could thrive with Cade CunninghamÂ
The only real knock against Trajan Langdon’s roster building thus far is that they have too many one-way players, which makes matching up difficult at times.Â
They have players like Duncan Robinson, who can shoot but not defend, and just the opposite in Ausar Thompson and Ron Holland II.Â
The Pistons could use more shooting on the wing and Carr can shoot it at all three levels. He scored an efficient 19 per game for Baylor this season and did it on high volume from long range, hitting 37.4 percent of his 3-point shots on over six attempts per game.Â
He’s also a very good defender who blocks shots at an elite level for a wing, using his wingspan and athleticism to block over a shot per game this season, so he’s a complete player who can compete on both sides of the ball.Â
He’s also the type of low usage guy who will thrive next to Cade Cunningham, as he gets his shot off quickly and doesn’t need much space to do it. He’s very good in dribble handoff situations and flying off screens for quick shots, which is something the Pistons lack outside of Duncan Robinson, especially moving forward.Â
The downside to Carr is that he isn’t much of a creator for himself or anyone else, but he wouldn’t need to be on the Pistons, who have been very good at using movement shooters to create space this season. Carr would be another guy who can fly around and force defenses to react.Â
He’s also 21-years-old already, so there are questions about his ultimate ceiling, but he draws some comparisons to Trey Murphy III, who was a similar size and stature coming out of college and also had similar questions about his playmaking.
As you can see from these highlights, he’s also got a Tayshaun Prince vibe, as he’s got a smooth jumper, will surprise you above the rim and really knows how to use his length to overcome his slight build.Â
The Pistons would love to land a complete player who is ready to contribute, so this wouldn’t be the worst outcome for them with a pick in the low 20’s.Â
