The Detroit Pistons finished their 2024-25 Summer League with a loss to the Utah Jazz, though there were plenty of positives to take away.
The Pistons came all the way back from 28 points down at half to make a game of it, so it was nice to see the team keep fighting. These are the types of things you look for in Summer League. Who has a good attitude? Who is listening? Who picks up their teammates? Who picks up the scheme?
Wins and losses are irrelevant and there are reasons to be hopeful about the Pistons’ most recent draft picks, but there were also plenty of questions.
#1: Have the Detroit Pistons found their backup point guard?
The Pistons recently made an offer to veteran point guard Patrick Beverley which he declined to play overseas.
They are likely to pivot to other options after missing out, as they could still use more depth at the point guard position. But if Trajan Langdon wants to save some cap space for future deals, Detroit could give two-way guard Daniss Jenkins a try.
He showed himself capable of running the offense in spurts, can knock down the occasional 3-point shot and played energetic defense in Summer League, when he averaged over a block and steal per game.
I still think the Pistons will seek a veteran point guard, but Jenkins will at least give them pause and possibly another option if they want to keep some powder dry for the trade deadline.
