Is Cade Cunningham playing tonight? Pistons injuries vs. Heat
The Detroit Pistons have won three of their last four games, a modest achievement considering the competition, but it's an important one for a team that hadn't had such a run in nearly two years.
But as usual with the Pistons, any joy is short-lived, as they will now face the Miami Heat on Friday and Sunday and may be doing so shorthanded.
Cade Cunningham has been on fire of late, averaging 24.3 points, 7.7 assists and 4.9 rebounds in his last 10 games while shooting over 43 percent from long range. He scored 19 in the last win over the Raptors even though he didn't play in the 4th quarter.
The Pistons said this was because Cunningham insisted that rookie Marcus Sasser finish the game, but it now looks like there might have been other factors at play.
Is Cade Cunningham playing tonight? Detroit Pistons vs. Miami Heat injury update
According to the official injury report, Cade Cunningham is listed as questionable for tonight's game against the Heat with what is being called "left knee injury management." This is the same knee that forced Cunningham to miss games earlier in the season and the Pistons have been cautious with him since.
Hopefully, caution is all it is, as Cunningham has been playing like an All-Star and the Detroit Pistons would love him to have a strong finish to the season before the summer when he is eligible for a rookie extension.
Quentin Grimes has been ruled out for tonight's game against the Heat with the same knee injury he's been battling since joining the Pistons. Grimes hasn't played much and has struggled with his shot when he has, so you have to wonder when and if he'll be shut down for the season. This will concern the Pistons, as he too is eligible for an extension this summer, though Detroit will be under no pressure to offer him one.
Ausar Thompson has also been ruled out with the same illness that has kept him out of several games, so the Pistons will be shorthanded tonight even if their leader plays.
The Heat will be missing Josh Richardson, Tyler Herro and Kevin Love and Bam Adebayo is listed as probable.
With a miserable season in its death throes, all eyes will be on Cunningham's knee, as getting him out of this season healthy should now be the main priority for Detroit.
