#9: The Streak

I didn’t expect the Detroit Pistons to be good this season, but I did predict them to win 34 games. Oops.

That may have been the optimism of Homer #1, but plenty of others thought the Pistons would at least win more games than they did last season.

Even the most pessimistic among us would have never guessed that the Pistons would tie the all-time losing streak by dropping 28-straight games, a task which is almost impossible in a league with so many bad teams and so many 3-point shots taken. Most teams get hot at some point and have a game where they just make everything. Not your Pistons!

It was a tough time to be a fan, as Detroit briefly and sarcastically became “America’s Team” as fans around the league heaped pity on them and cheered for the streak to end.

Monty Williams looked clueless, and the players looked helpless and hopeless as the losses just kept piling up, effectively ending the season before Thanksgiving.
