#5: The Mike Muscala effect

The Pistons were finally able to pay someone to take Marvin Bagley III off of their hands (great pickup and signing, Troy!) and in return got Mike Muscala and Danilo Gallinari, who both had an immediate and unlikely impact.

The bench suddenly looked ok with just the addition of two washed veterans, which shows just how badly Troy Weaver botched the offseason, as a couple of players like this may have helped Detroit avoid the mess that ensued.

The Pistons won four of the first seven games in which Muscala appeared, which must have frightened the front office, who demanded he be benched and then waived him to ensure the Pistons didn’t do anything wild, like win games or improve.

Muscala was eventually released so he could join a real team, but we’ll always have those four games, Moose!
