#4: Trade deadline chaos

I don’t think I’ve ever had a busier time in this job than this year’s trade deadline, when it seemed like a new notification about the Detroit Pistons was popping up every few minutes. The Pistons swapped out eight players in total (though some of them were almost immediately waived), ending with the most turnover of any team in the NBA.

Though Weaver definitely waited too long to trade Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks, there was hope that Quentin Grimes could be a future rotation player for Detroit, hope that wasn’t buoyed by a knee injury that limited him to just six games.

Simone Fontecchio ended up being the only real prize of the deadline, which was more about getting rid of bad players than taking on good ones. But Fontecchio looks like a keeper, which was the only move Troy Weaver made this season that deserves any accolades.

Most of the players they acquired will not be on the team next season, so expect a similar flurry sometime this summer.
